Shipping handguns
Must handguns always be shiped next day air? Are there any other ways they can be shiped?

I just sold a pistol on GB for the first time. I know about getting their FFL. But, what is the best legal way to ship a handgun? 0 -
You may have a problem if you did not indicate the method of shipping in your listing, & you expect the buyer to pay. Both carriers require handguns be shipped Next Day Air. Charges can be calculated using their online calculators, but can easily be $40-70; plus, you must request "Adult signature required". Guns can only be shipped from a company customer counter. And, neither will accept a gun from a nonlicensee if you tell them you sold it, even if the recipient has an FFL. You can probably get around this by declaring the gun as "Firearm for repair". I can't see where one carrier is better than the other.

check out UPS 2nd day air saver, it is one of the choices they list for shipping handguns runs around 35-40 bucks depending of course on weight and where its going and still gets there by 5pm next day 0 -

Would it be better to have my buddy who has an FFL ship them for me?
They are going to another FFL holder.

That would be the best way. HE can ship handguns by USPS, which will be much cheaper. Figure $10-15.

Where exactily did you find 2nd day air listed as a choice for shipping a handgun? At the UPS counter, I've always been told next day air.

Shipping Firearms Including Handguns
Customers must observe the following procedures to ship firearms (including handguns) via UPS:
UPS accepts firearm shipments from UPS daily pickup accounts and through UPS Customer Centers. UPS daily pickup accounts can also ship firearms, not including handguns, through UPS Internet Shipping, On-Call PickupSM, and One-Time Pickup. Firearms are not accepted for shipment via UPS Letter Centers, UPS SonicAir BestFlightSM service, or international service. Firearms will not be accepted when presented for shipment at a UPS Authorized Shipping Outlet or a UPS Commercial Counter.

UPS prohibits the inclusion of ammunition in packages containing firearms, including handguns.
In locations where a UPS Next Day Air service is not offered, packages containing handguns must be shipped via the most premium domestic air service available."
I believe that gskyhawk was given incorrect information. The key here is "Next Day Air"; these packages are locked in the "valuables" locker at UPS terminals, & the objective of this policy is to prevent firearms from sitting in an unsecured area of their terminals, planes, or trucks.

I ship only with USPO and I do not have to send next day. Cost about 10 to 15.00 - Depending on weight. 0 -
Iowa, that's the best way to ship handguns when both you & the recipient have an FFL.
However, since vroyce is not a licensee, he is not permitted to ship a handgun by USPS under any circumstances; if he were to be caught doing so, he would likely spend several years in a federal prison.

Nmyers,that's a lot of bull.I get handguns from various distributors and they all (most) ship by what UPS calls " Second Day Air Saver" or something like that.I recently bought a gun from a distributor and asked for "2nd Day Air Saver" and he said it was not available from his area to mine.[:)] 0 -

What you are refering to is next day air saver not 2nd day air saver. It is not available in all areas. Check UPS online and it will break down the difference in price. 0
