SKS Hammer problems

I am having a chronic reassembly problem with my SKS trigger groups. On three guns I am getting a hammer that wont move; the hammer isnt swinging up to engage the firing pin on trigger pull.

So I disassemble and reassemble. I am careful to follow all instructions (safety on for remove/install trigger group for example) and I have done this many times, and it was always a breeze.

Then I took a gun that was working perfectly well, tested it a few times by pull the bolt back and letting the hammer cock and it worked fine. Disassembled it and reassembled it and guess what - same problem.

In summary everything snaps in with little or no forcing, looks fine, seems to operate fine, but hammer remains locked in down position whether I have bolt installed or not.

So obviously on 4 guns the problem is me not the guns, what am I doing wrong?

    Might be the position of the safety upon reassembly.

    If this is the same SKS trigger group that I have in mind, then should'nt the hammer be in the upright position upon reinstalation.
    In other words, are you able to bring the hammer to cocked position from a neutral position. If so try to see where the sear is binding.
    This might give you an idea of where to start. Hope this is helpful, GOOD LUCK!!! for such a simple trigger group sometimes those things can be a little testy.[:D]

    Merry Christmas.....Sounds like a lump of coal in your Christmas stocking....
    A couple questions to clarify wording:

    When you 'disassemble':
    I assume you are just removing cleaning rod, receiver cover and spring, bolt assembly, gas tube cover and spring, magazine, trigger GROUP, and finally the barrel/receiver assembly from the stock. This is kind of standard for access to all metal surfaces for cleaning.

    I assume you are NOT disassembling the trigger group itself, or are you?

    I assume the action is 'cocked' (this is what you mean by hammer down?) and safety on when disassembling and reassembling.

    On reassembly, the hammer must be cocked and the safety on. Make sure the lugs on the front of the trigger guard engage the notches in the receiver legs to lock in the front end of the trigger group. Not sure if it would go together if they weren't.

    I took 2 SKS's apart and looked them over. Nothing unusual. Reassembled and tried firing mechanism. Worked fine. Most trouble for me is getting bolt and bolt carrier in the first time.

    I agree with HKman see if you haven't installed something backwards. see if the seer isn't bindng. the hammer only goes in one way. any way its new years and ive had a few and its probly not a good idea that i take mine apart ti figure it out. although as i reached for my spare trigger mech i realised that the seer was still out from the last time i play mister automatic with it. any way good luck and stop taking things apart.
    Ive been a gunsmith for 30+ yrs , and its been my experience with the SKS that if you don't achieve the necessary 21 jiga wats that the flux capicitor operate at maximum efficiency, thus not having the required power to move the hammer thingy.

    Yeah! you gotta keep a close eye on that flux capacitor. You hit it too much with a file, and before you know it youve emptied a 30rnd mag in about 3-1/2 seconds.[;)][:p]
