N.R. Davis & Sons, or J.N. Scotts
My Grandpa is interested in selling a some of his old shotguns, and he was wondering if anybody here knew anything about thier values. He has a N.R. Davis & Sons 12 guage double barrel with side hammers. The other is a J. N. Scotts 10 guage double barrel. It is built on the R & S patent 397. We appreciate any info on these shotguns.

Davis was one of the precursor companies to Crescent-Davis Arms. They made serviceable shotguns for the common man, and made them in large numbers. Today they are mostly sold as wall hangers, and depending upon condition can bring between $50 and maybe $200.
J.N. Scott is less known, but apparently built a good quality (but not best quality) shotgun, some being sold as store guns. Can't help much with value on this one (you give us no information on condition), but maybe a little more than the Davis. If either or both have Damascus barrels, they are probably wall hangers. If it were me, I would try to convince Granddad to either leave them in the family, or sell them to me. I would put them over the fireplace and be very proud to have Granddads shotguns.
Neither should be shot with modern shotshells, these were blackpowder or bulk powder shell guns. They should be throughly checked by a competent smith before shooting anything. That is why today they are mostly wall hangers.0
