Jap 6.5mm
I have received a (I BELIEVE A T-38)the beautifully finished furniture is shaped very curvy, plum or flower stamped w/ some Japanese markings....so well preserved but fires right on @ 100yds the bottom of the grip is like a black shiny hard laquered wood. it is gorgeous. at $2.00 a round to shoot it looks just fine on my wall all shiny....but does anyone know if this type was used in battle against US I found out it is a t38 ...any experts??

I am a bit knowledgeable on these weapons. Your question makes no sense whatsoever. If it fires 6.5 accurately, it is either a type 30 or a type 38.
If the Kanji is vertical, it is a type 38. If the Kanji is horizonal, it is a type 99 (but would also be a 7.7 Japanese).
A photo would be a godsent.

Hello I believe from your description that what you have is a Jap 6.5 that has in it's past life gone from being a Mil. weapon to one that has been "SPORTERIZED" If it was mil it would have no cheeck rest or grip cap. If it shoots well and you like the way it looks great Use it and enjoy it .thatis the good news . The bad news is that it has no value as a MIL. collector item and would be costly or inpossible to reconvert back to one IMHO. 0 -
Stee, I'm not sure what your question is but I do have a comment or two. Without a picture it would be hard to pinpoint just what you might have. The cheek piece leads me to think that your rifle has been sporterized at some point in the past. I assume the flower stamp you refer to is on the top of the receiver--if so--that is a japanese crysthanmum(not sure about the spelling) or mum which is the official symbol of the Japanense Emperor and is on the rifle to denote that the Emperor owned all the rifles of the japanese military. I have owned one rifle so sporterized myself. I don't know where you bought your ammo at $2.00 each round but Graf's in Missouri sells cases at $17.00 per 100 and even loaded ammo at $27.00 per 20. Lee makes 6.5 X 50mm reloading dies for your rifle. I have Lee dies and 20 norma cases myself right now that is not being used. I no longer have the rifle though. If you do have the type 38 rifle it has one of the strongest military actions ever made, stronger than either the mauser or the springfield 03. P.O. Ackley proved that in the late 50's with his blow-up tests of military as well as civilian rifle actions. Enjoy your rifle, they are nice little rifles and I do like them myself. Jim 0
