Folks, first of all I want to wish everyone out there a glorious holiday and a prosperous New Year, and thank everyone for all the knowledge and information they have shared with me. The generosity of the members here has been truly heart warming! Now, as usual, I am perplexed, and need a little info. I have owned 3 S and W 44 snubs in the last 12 or so years. I know that I had a Model 29-3 and a Model 29-4. I currently have a Model 629-1. I was just wondering what the number after the Model # signifies. Were these guns built in that order, such as Series # 1, then 2, 3, and 4? Thanks again for dealing with me in the past and I look forward to learning from you guys in the future! Barry L. By the way, I got the nickname "scary barry" when I was a patrolman, and I was told that I scared new recruits. I might have been abrupt but I'm actually a peace loving man, and abhor violence.     When ever S&W changes (improves so they think or say), a model the dash number designates that model. The first release of the 29 would have been the 29. The next updated model would be 29-1 and so on. Not special runs, but when they actually change the production runs. Happy Holidays to all.
