Browning medallion 308

Anyone have anything to say, good, bad or ugly? Thinking of trading a remington 722 in 308 for A-bolt 308. Like the lighter weight and have some extra cash. Do they all come with engraved rings and action? Comments?

    Far as I know, the Medallion came with an engraved receiver and Rosewood caps on the grip and fore-end. I bought mine new in '89 and as far as I know they have never come with rings. I put Browning bases and Leupold rings on mine (personal preference) with a Leupold Vari-X II, 2-7x33. This has been a very reliable and extremely accurate firearm for the last 15 years and I wouldn't trade it for the world. It would be well worth the extra $$ to upgrade from your 722(parts are getting scarce). Good luck.

    These are great guns. Much lighter than your 722 and much less club like. They do not come with rings from the factory. Id try to get atleast 300 for your Remington if its in good shape, the ystill have a pretty good following.

    As a sidenote; I was able to pick up a second A-bolt in .270 for my brother (he fell in love with mine after shooting a 6x7 bull elk with it) for $250 Canadian. It was the Hunter model (plain stock, no engraving, matte finish, open sights, etc) but has proven to be just as accurate and reliable as mine using the same reloads. If the fancy stuff is not an issue to you, you may be able to save some $$ by looking for the Hunter model.

    Thanks for the comments so far!!! The rings appear to be engraved in the same style as the reciever. There is/are no rosewood caps, just a "plain" wood stock (nice finish and grain pattern) Parts for the 722 are no problem as I have 3 spares. The 308 is actually a 257 that was re-barreled years ago.

    Just looked at several medallions here on GB and a stock on the other auctions site. All have rosewood caps. Think this one i've been looking at has been restocked or may be the Hunter model? The tag says Medallion. Did the Hunters ever have engraving?

    I am getting ready to list one on GB after the Holidays along with a few XTR Fwts. Just have to thin out a few. The one thing I noticed about this Browning was the trigger, it was a lot better than most factory Brownings. It has engraving on the receiver and bottom metal. Has rosewood pistol grip cap and fore-end. It did not come with rings. Good luck on yours they seem like a very nice rifle.

    Millet used to make affordable engraved ring sets...that could be what's on this one?

    If you are looking for a hunting rifle of the non-modified variety,..I'd take the a-bolt over the 722. But if you were to ever wish to build a rifle on the action the 722 is the better choice. I have a 7mm-08 medallion and it is a GREAT,..short, light, and accurate rifle. I don't have any plans on getting rid of mine either.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
