    I'm getting ready to purchase a s&w 500, I was going to get one with an 8 3/8" barrel, although I just held one with a 4" barrel and really liked it - but did not shoot it. Has anyone had any experience shooting this gun in a 4" barrel? (or longer barrel for that matter?) How is it for accuracy in comparison to the 8 3/8" barrel. I'd appreciate any input at all on the handgun. I shoot a magnum research 50 ae, and a magnum research 454, but both are with longer barrels (10" and 8" respectively), so i was thinking i'd try something with a shorter barrel.

    I shot the 4" barrel its packs a big punch. Go with a longer barrel. For how hard it kicks it aint fun to shoot. Great gun to give to your wife.[:D][}:)]

    Go with the 8-3/8" barrel. The 4" is not shooter friendly.

    I have shot the 6.5", 8 3/8", and the 10.5" models. I must say the best handling and least felt recoil to me was the 8 3/8 inch model. Never have shot the 4" model. I think it would be neat to have though.

    I own the 8 3/8ths barrel and I love it. It is very accurate with both the corbon 275 JHP and the Hornady 350 JHP. At 25 yards on a bench rest were talking 1 to 1 1/2 inch groups with iron sites.
    I don't think the muzzle jump is bad at all. It does have a darn good kick right in the palm of your hand though. You can feel the bones in you palm ache after 5 shots. Thats when you shoot your other gun for 15 minutes before you go back to the 500.
