made between 1942 and 45....was this a dependable and if so what role it played..mine handed down to me sounded like a sniper type...especially w/ the rear sights I can't figure out.it's got a off swith on thereceiver? and safe controling the bolt movement serial#34894XX..it's beautiful and shoots right on@ 150 yds w/o those complicated sites. these are not grenade sights!!!!! what do i have if anything. I'll deer hunt with it ...no scope required

  Remington made the M1903, which, with revisions such as elimination of target sights, became the M1903A3 by the end of the war. They saw little front line action during WWII, as the semi-automatic M1 rifle was superior in combat, although not necessarily as accurate. A sniper version called the M1903A4 (which you DON'T have) was used during the war.
  
  The Civilian Marksmanship Program sells an inexpensive booklet that explains how to use the sights & the magazine cut-off (which was intended to hold a full magazine in case of an enemy charge).
