ballistic tips
How well do ballistic tipped bullets work on medium game like hogs and deer. I heard that Winchester ballistic tips shoot pretty good in 7mm mag.

I've never heard that a ballistic tip wouldn't work well at a higher velocity, and think that they will do just fine in your Warbird. Here's an idea for you that so many folks never seem to think about: Why not call (1) the factory, and (2) the bullet maker and discuss it with their resident, paid experts. Yes, they actually pay people to talk to the users of their products, often at a toll-free phone number, and what better source for information than the makers? They will probably even recommend an exact, high performance load for your rifle. I have used this service a number of times with RCBS. 0 -
I think the ballistic tips might be a little light in construction for the Warbird (now THERES a screamer!) as the polymer is liable to malform into the cavity and cause a swell at the tip of the bullet. I feel that you would be on the right track if you went for some kind of soft point, heavier construced bullet, as you suspected already. The combined technologies, Speer Grand Slams, Sierra GameKings etc... might be the better choice for you.

A 150 grain Ballistic Tip going that fast will definately trash a lot of tasty venison. A good bonded core would be a better idea.

A lot depends on the range you take your game at. Up close you have way too much velocity for that bullet, but if you're shooting at 300-500 yards, what that rifle was intended for, your going with the right bullet!!

Considering that Lorenzzie(sp) designs there rifles and cartridges for 400+ yd shooting (anything closer and a 308/30-06 class cartridge is more than enough for deer), the BT will be fine IF you keep the ranges "out there" (in close and you won't be happy with the results). 
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
I've had 165 grain BT's expand violenty at 100 yds at 30/06 velocity. This mirrors performance of other BT's in .284 and .243 on deer and coyotes.

The only thing a shooter must remember is to use the soft "body" area for the close up shots 1yd-200yds and then the shoulder can be used after the pill has slowed up a bit if using a fast magnum. The balistic tip was designed to not deform in the magazine under heavy recoil,..therefore they are great bullets for keeping their aerodynamic shape while in and out of the box.
Now,..depending on speed,..you may wish to step up to the next heavier or go to the accubonds which offer match profiles with polymer tips, but have bonded cores for good penetration. I used them in WY this year and their terminal peformance is superb.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Thanks everyone you confirmed my thoughts. I figured it was not the right bullet for that gun at less than 250 yds, but it just shoots so dog gone good I hated to not use it. Thanks again. 0 -
I use them at any range and they work just fine. that includes a 150gr 7mm NBT at 3200fps and a 50yd shot.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

sounds like a very interesting choice in caliber !
i would personally go for a little tougher bullet . or use the ballistic tip at LONG range.0
