    You needen't answer the knock at the door- It's the police. You got that rifle for about 1/10th of it's value.

    I have no doubt you got a great deal, but the actual value of the rifle depends upon condition. If is is not about 95 or 96% condition it is not an "investment rifle" it is a shooter, though it may be a very high grade shooter. Pre-64's have two price ranges: shooters and collectables. Shooters can range up to perhaps $750 to $850, and collectables range well above that. I have seen some nice pre-64's in the $350-$400 range (and no I did not have the $$) but most go above that. Those are indeed the police at your door!

    Your Model 70 is an early post-war (1946) and the .257 Roberts is a desirable caliber. If it's unaltered (no pad, no extra holes) and in excellent original condition, it's worth in the $1400 range. Any deviations from 100% condition bring the value down. Even the old Lyman Alaskan scopes have some collector value. Nice rig-take care of it. -Asa
