S & W 38 SPL Snubby M37
Have a 38 S&W spl and I want to replace the Chamber spring on the cartridge ejector rod.
Problem: how do I get access to the spring, I can't seem to find a way to access this part of the gun.
Hope somebody can help me out on this one.[8D]

Chamber spring? Do you mean you want to replace the extractor rod spring?

If your talking about the spring associated with the extractor that is not a simple job nor is it one I would recommend that a person with little to no revolver dis-assembly/assembly experience attempt.
The threads on the extractor rod are left hand and you can damage the rod, or other parts such as the extractor "star" if you don't know what your doing.
Best thing to do is take it to a gunsmith. Not a complex job and the shop charges shouldn't be all that much.
However, if your bound and determined to tackle this there are books at the library on working with/on revolvers, and there should be a number of on line sources. Just do a search on revolver repair or revolver disassembly ... etc.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Load the chambers with emtys and turn the ejector rod clockwise with a padded plyer to unscrew it. A drop of Kroil before hand can help.
Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.0 -
The ejector rod is staked so there will be a bit of resistance before it will unscrew. Remamber it's a left hand thread.
It's not really necessary to restake the rod when you finish. Just snug it up.0
