Chip Mccormick or Wilson Mags for .1911

I see so many various opinions on which magazine is better. I'm looking for a couple for my SA Trophy Match and wanted to see what everyone out there is using.

I look forward to your replies.

    Wilson Combat mags are the best of the best! 99% of 1911A1s work flawlessly with them.

    I have used Chip McCormick mags for the past 3 years in my Kimber for tactical firearm training and they have been ABUSED. Been dropped, slammed, kicked, stepped on, covered in sand and dirt and have performed awesome for me. Buddy I train with went the Wilson route and haved had the same success. You can pick up Chip McCormick Power 8rnd Power Mags for 20.00, Wilsons will cost you a few more bucks.

    Another company to look into is Tripp Cobra Mags, I hear they are awesome. Just haven't been proven like Wilsons or Chips. Either way you go, both brands are great. Wilsons have awesome customer service. I haven't had a chance to deal with Chip's customer service yet.

    I had accumulated almost 2 dozen of the 8 round 'stainless' Chip McCormick mags, and found them to work fine.

    I picked up a SA 1911A1 with a little custom work last year and sometimes the slide would not stay open after the last shot. After a few hundred rounds that cleared up (I thought). I do have 2 in 21 that do not hold open on last shot in my newest SA. Rather than fiddle with them, I just delegated them to another gun.

    I still think they are a pretty good deal. $13.00 , 8 rounds, same length as 7 round mag (does not stick out). Wilsons are good too, but a little more $$$$ and some are a little longer and "stick out".

    I have four McCormick's and 14-16 Wilson's. The Wilson's have worked flawlessly in everything I have put them in. I can only recall one feeding failure with the McCormick and it may not have been mag related. McCormicks are less expensive. I have bought the Wilson's in quantity (3-5 at a time) and been able to purchase for the same price as the McCormicks by buying that way.

    I use Wilson's. On another forum I had heard that Kimber was not going to use CMC mags anymore, because the follower was sliding forward on the last round and hitting the feed ramp of the barrel. Some guys were really PO'd at CMC. I never had any experience with CMC at all, except for their new AR triggers which are awesome

    put them side by side you will see the Wilson's are much better construction ,and thicker steel ,the cip mags do destroy aluminum kimber frames

    At least we are comparing apples to apples. Both magazines are excellent, but Wilson wins every time. You will have feeding malfunctions sometime or another. Most of the problems will be magazine related 98% of the time, especially with re-loads. Pay special attention to the coil springs and change them as necessary. This will be your biggest culprit in feeding problems. The only issue with the Wilson's is the plastic follower. After a while the "hold open" lip will tear or deform, and the slide will not stay open. Changing the follower will correct the problem. When buying a magazine, choose the one that allows complete disassembly to facilitate cleaning, and keep them "dry" and clean. Wilson also sells kits to modify "other" magazines, consisting of a new "Wolff" spring and their famed followers. I have "repaired" some CMC's that were giving me problems that way. A newcomer, Novak, is worth looking into. So are the Tripp Research, which holds/pushes the rounds a little bit higher for easier feeding with non FMJ-RN bullets. Ah! If only we had so many good choices thirty years ago...

    I would have to cast my vote for Wilson Combat also. Although I don't have any negative first hand experience with Chip McCormick Mags. I have dozens of the Wilson 8 rd. and 10 rd. mags and they have all worked perfectly. Not to mention Wilson Combat has been a very customer friendly company and stands behind their products.

    Have used McCormick, Wilson, and the Cobra mags. Go for which every one your budget will let you get. The smith that built my Custom pushes the Cobra mag. So that is all I use in it. All 3 are very good.

    Either McCormick or Wilson will do the job.

    I'd rate McCormick as Very Good, and Wilson as Excellent.
