300 mag again???
I'm sorry for not giving enough information about it. What I'm looking for is: -to hunt with it most of the time(deer).
-maybe use it for big game one day.
-sturdy enough for what mother nature brings.
-range is 100 yard or less, but once in a blue moon
might have to take a 300 yards or more.
-an all well rounded rifle.
it doesn't matter what which 300 mag??? I really don't know what the diffents between the: 300 win, 300 whty, 300 rem, or the 300 WSM.
which one have the less recoil, but the better range. Also I don't like wood stock, because I'm buying it for hunting not for looks.
I prefer spending more on the rifle and a little less on the scope. Total package about $2500.
I use to hunt with a 308 and now I'm using a 7 rem mag with bushnell scope.

win. m-70 classic w/synthetic stock, .300 win. mag.(you can buy ammo in any gun shop/walmart) + burris or leopold scope <$1500.00. a little much for deer but will handel any thing on this continent out to 500 yrds +. 0 -
What Mike said. 300 is to much gun for deer, but then again you
wont need a bigger rifle for anything else. Maybe a 30-06 or 270,
7mm might be a better choice.

With the parameters you are looking for I think you should look at a Howa or a Savage and a nice Burris scope. You'll have PLENTY of money left over. I have a Howa 1500 in stainless with a silver finish Burris Fullfield II in 3x9, ballistic plex retical. Total package was about $715, and a free spotting scope came with the rifle. It can do anything a Browning or Winchester will do IMO. The trigger is a little stiff but you could always go with the Savage for the Accu-trigger. 0 -

I think you have a fine caliber right now in the 7mm Remington magnum. It will do about anything the 300 Mag. will do on the North American Continent except maybe Brown bear or Grizzly. Even then with a 175 grain bullet, under 300 yards, and bullet placed right , it will do the job but I do consider it a little lite for big bears. You didn't say what rifle maker you have but most of the American rifle companies make good rifles-certainly good enough for 300 yards. Most will require a little tweaking here and there. Maybe pillar bedded or glass bedded, sometime even a new barrel but there are a lot of good barrels being trash canned right now. I would try getting a solid bed job before throwing a barrel away. Maybe a trigger job and make darned sure that your scope rings are reamed in straight and tight and not putting un-even pressure on the scope. You didn't say which Bushnell scope you had but there are better scopes out there, Burris, Leupold, Bauche & Lomb 3200 or 4200, etc. I have had several synthetic stocks on rifles in the past but right now I am slowly replaceing them all with laminated wood stocks. My experience has been that laminated wood is better than the synthetics. The above represents some 50+ years of hunting and shooting and is just my experiences and not binding on anyone. Jim 0 -

Listen Willy I have been reading the forums for a few years now and don't reply much. But now I have too. The good thing about this forum is that there is alot of knowledge here and I've learned a great deal here. Although I know what it's like when you have something in mind and everyone seems to deter you from what your looking for. You asked a question and for advice on a 300 cal rifle and durable optics and thats what I'll give you. I personally have a weatherby fibermark mk V stainless in a 300 weatherby cal. I have leupold rings and bases and a leupold var III 3.5-10-50 scope. The whole package ran a little over $2000. But I have a world class rifle and scope and I love it. You want a 300 then get a 300. 0 -
It sounds like you are looking for a really big .30 cal. cartrigde.You might take intrest in the lazoroni made 300 warbird .Althou i have never shot this round i do know that it will out preform all other 300's.This is way too much for deer but I thought it should be brought into the conversation.This might have to be a costum job,im not for sure but if done right it can easily reach 500-600 yards for deer but that all depends on your skills.Hope this helps. 0 -
Keep the 7mm Mag, and replace the Bushnell with a Burris Fullfield11 4.5X14.
For out to 300yds or so you will never need more than that.

It looks like you want variety in your arsenal. No excuses needed. You got the money handy? Buy it, and enjoy it. Why? Because you can, and want to. So long as you are going the extra mile, might as well go for the WSSM. It's the hot thing going, unless you want the ability of using the heavier bullets, in which cas stick with the Win.Mag, as everybody stocks it. 0
