Well, I did a search. It wasn't quite "beat to death" but yes there was a previous discussion about it. Yes, it will fire underwater but it is dumb to do it...may blow up, may not go where you want, etc etc. Just wondering.....I won't be trying it..just wondering about the physics of it...thx

The Glock pistol has been tested underwater and works at short range. Glock makes special firing pin bushings that reduce water drag on the firing pin. Concussion to the shooter is said to be severe.
In the early '60s an inventor approached our company trying to promote an underwater revolver for military use. It had a full length cylinder,no barrel, and fired darts reasonably accurately.
The Govt agencies I contacted didn't respond so we didn't take on the project.
I still have a dart and maybe a picture. The dart is about 3/8" dia x 7" long with an ogival steel point about 2" long & flush with the micarta
shaft. The weight is about two ounces.
Interestingly, when the subject came up on this board previously, someone said the Russians came up with the same or similar gun at about the same time.0 -

Spear guns powered by firearms cartridges have been developed and used. The sound is very damaging to the shooter (38 caliber cases) and there is no increase in range versus the 1/2" rubber bands used presently. "Bang sticks" used to feign off sharks at close range are almost as damaging to the user as to the recipient.
Also some countries have made there use for shooting fish illegal.

I remember reading several years ago that HK had designed and manufactured a pistol specifically for underwater use by SpecOps units. This five barrelled pistol was a highly specialized unit made almost entirely from polymer, the use of which HK pioneered. It's barrels, which were completely sealed, were nonreloadable in the field and had to be sent back to the factory after use.

I'm afraid you are absolutely wrong again bobski, they were shooting them underwater. Why don't you try to get things right once in a while?
Maybe you didn't watch as much Sea Hunt and I did, there werte absolutely episodes when guns were fired beneath the water.
