Scope drilling fixture - which one?

Will be drilling a Mauser M96 (nothing hurt - somebody already started hacking on it)....and need to know which scope mount drilling fixture to purchase? Look about the same function, but quite a difference in price. Anybody use either one? Comments? Suggestions?

    Both work. The second (B-Square) is better built.
    I have them for sale lower than Mid Way.

    Save your money and buy the Wheeler, I've used one for years and it works fine. What I'd recomend is that you make up a level plate so that after you drill your holes and are screwing the bases onto the receiver you can evaluate if everything is level straight and true. A level plate is just a flat piece of Aluminum/wood/?? with the needed slots and holes in it to screw down your receiver. Placed in a vice and leveled with a 6" level, in both planes, you will be able to decide if you've gotten what you need or not.

    Almost forgot, why is it necessary to remove the barrel? Am I missing something here?

    Forster is the best one for drilling and tapping in my opinion and no need to remove the barrel for whatever reason. I've used one for a lot of years and wouldn' part with it.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    The barrel doesn't have to be removed, just don't drill to deep. If the barrel is removed then keeping the drilling fixture well seated and perpendicular to the drill press is easier.

    I also use a Forster..The Wheeler requires barrel removal, as stated in the directions...Spend the $$$ and get a Forster...

    I have a forester that I would sell for a good offer. It is a fine tool indeed and bushings and parts are available from Brownells.

    Is this a one time deal or are you planning on doing more over a period of time? If it is a one shot job, you would be better off having it done or purchasing a good gunsmith book and learn how to d&t without a fixture. It certainly would be less costly. At gunsmith school that was how we were required to do that job until we became proficient than we were allowed to use the jig. Of course, if you are a "gadget guy" like a lot of us, just having the jig is almost a necessary as the use to which it is put.
    If you are purchasing a jig for now and future use, pay the price and get the Forster. Very simple to use and hell for stout.

    For extra set up accuracy, for a most true indexing if you don't have a vertical lathe/miller....you need to remove the action (not barrel) for the best job.

    B Square & Williams are the best out there. Pay for it once, and have the best for life. Or until you have a vertical.
