Check the barrel legend to see if it doesn't perhaps say 22 short, or something other than 22 long rifle. Sounds to me as though perhaps you are chambering the wrong length rimfire. The model 12 is an old design and has been produced long enough that some of the guns are antiques, and at that a great many 22 rimfires of the time were made in chamberings OTHER than 22 long rifle. The 22 long rifle was the 17 HMR of it's day and was a little expensive for the average kid to buy, so many guns were made ro chamber 22 short only. I hope I understood the question correctly...please post back to let us know if that did it or if you need more help.

update am at the house and pulled out the gun.it has 22 short, long, long rifle. the bottom side of the slide has a slot about 7/16 of an inch long. that is where the bullets stick out. right in front of the action. it is an octagon barrel if that makes a differance.

I posted as gif files, if you are still on dial up it may take quite a while to load... but there is nothing wrong with the site. had a couple users email me already as to where I got that info. If all else fails email me and I go postal( I mean mail you a paper copy...) 7 pages on M12 from Remington Field Service Manual

I'm guessing that you are missing the cartridge guide. It is the 2 1/2" piece that lays between the barrel and the magazine tube and guides the cartridge into the chamber. I have them if that is the case. Al

TOBEFREE: I tried yesterday to redownload the instructions. I must have something wrong with my computer as i still cant.possibly could you try an e-mail. maybe i can get it that way. just guessing.

ALFONSE: that sounds like it might be the culprit. I tried it, and the bullets are comming up between the barrel and slide, when i reinsert the tube spring with the gun upside down. if i turn the gun right side up before inserting the spring tube it seemed to function ok.
