.300 magnum
I'm trying to purchase a new rifle: in the 300 mag. I'm trying to spend in the range aroud $1000 for the rifle, and a really nice scope for it. I'm planning to spend about $2500 for the whole package, and I want to know which rifle would be the best one for the money. I prefer synthetic stock with SS barrel and less recoil. Thanks....

I would recommend a Rem. 40xb out of the custom shop, but the shop has been in question.
Try a Savage 112bss (about $800-900) and top it with a Night Force 8-32x ($1100, $1200)

as far as rifles, i dont think i know of anything with wat your lookin for, for 1 K dollars, but as far as scopes, DEFINATLY go with Swarovski if you want nothing but the best, they know what there doing. They have some of nicest scopes on the planet, sharpest optics, very tough, and very quality, go to there website to find excactly which one suites you. it will run you about easily over 1k for the scope, almost 2. if your getting a rifle that isnt awsomely good(1G and under) then you should probably go with Nikon scopes, about 700$ and down, very nice, but state of the art quality like Swarovski. World class scopes go good with world class rifles, like the Sako Trg for example, not some factory mass produced savage. I think you should reconsider what you are trying to buy and how much you are gonna spend on it. 0 -

That's a nice balance of money for a rifle/scope combination. But, it helps if you could tell us what you are thinking about as far as uses are concerned. There's a lot a variety of expertise on this board and we could use some information in order to help.

Remington Sendero SF, badger ordnance tactical 20moa base and tactical rings and as menttioned,..the Nightforce NXS 8-32x56 or 12-42x56 or even the 5.5-22x56. That set-up will bring you just about $2500
Or--rebarrel a used sendero with a new match tube, true the action and bed it in the original HS Precision stock,.and then continue from there.
If you are "clicking to zero" at multiple ranges,..the NXS is possibly one of the truest, toughest, and most precision LR instruments I have handled. Also,..with their ranging reticles,..holdover points can be matched to your dope chart and you don't have to click at all. Look at the R2 or IRR reticles.
edit: I just saw nononsense' reply and agree. My recommendation is for LR/T work a hunting gun would be a whole nother set-up.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Can't go wrong with the Nightforce and Badger rings and base. Or you can even go with Ken Farrell rings and base. Very good stuff, and a few bucks cheaper than Badger Ordnance.
JustC suggested a great rig for a long range tac rifle.
Another option would be the Savage 110FP. Savages are known for great accuracy out of the box. Cost about 515.00 NIB.
Dump the standard stock that comes with the rifle for a Sharp Shooter Supply Varmit/Tactical stock. Cost 245.00
Ken Farrell Base and Rings. 180.00
This leaves you about 1500.00 for optics. Can't go wrong with Nightforce, Leupold, or Schmidt & Bender. Power of your choice depending on application of the rifle.0 -

leave you some change. Now your hunting[^]

You do not mention where you are, no do you mention game you'll need a 300 MAG for?
Stainless, you got that right...good idea.
Frankly in the lower 48 within its capabilities a thutty-thutty will bring home the meat for any game animal.
As for as the 300's go, me, I'd rather have a standard 338 instead of a 300WN or the Ultra-Mags. Recoil is about like a 12gau.
By shopping around on this site and others you ought to be able to put together a terrific, last a life time, stainless rifle with rings and mounts and a nice scope for less than $1000. excluding postage and tax if applicable, and transfer fees. But before venturing into buying over the net check out what your local dealer would charge for a transfer. Some dealers are snakes and will really hit you with a smack-down-smack high fee, if ya find one of them NEVER, NEVER do business with that one.
Seems to me spending a little more time thinking about your real needs will help in making a more sound decision.
In closing if your still wanting a 300Win mag stainless and a synthetic...with scope I can sell you the one I have in my safe, with very nice Elite 4200, Silver 2.5-10X40 in leupold rings and a base for a lot less than $1,000....plus this stainless Winchester has factory open sights...[:D][:D]
