These 1911 questions always garner a lot of response, which sure says something for a design that is just a half-dozen years short of 100, and still in such wide use. I wanted to answer your question, but it was locked up just as I was grabbing for it, and although I clung on for a long time with torn fingernails and bleeding fingertips, finally I became tired and had to let go, where it sunk into Capt. Kirk's cesspool of used up threads. All of that having been said: I think that the current Colt is a fine pistol. I own two: a full-sized 1991-A1 Govt. Model in matte blue finish, and a Stainless Steel Commander. Both have given me excellent service and reliabilty, and I would willingly buy either again; although I doubt if my wife would allow that. There have been some periods in their production that they weren't "up to snuff", and those made during the timeperiod mid-80s to mid-90s should be taken on a case-by-case basis. Absolutely no one gave you poor advice, all responses were good; but you did ask specifically about the Colt. Kimber, Springfield, S&W, all all good guns, and if I missed someone's favorite "clone" I'm sorry. My current favorite is the SW1911, but it's only because it comes much more "embellished" than does the Colt. You can't go wrong with any of these (including that old Remington Rand!) for reliability, but you might want to rethink the "Accuracy not as important as reliability" thing. Of course, reliability is very important, but accuracy is equally so. Afterall, it won't matter much if your gun functions well if you miss what you are shooting at, i.e. that large Kodiak Bear during his lunch hour. Or, that two-legged camp raider, smaller and faster moving, but just as dangerous. [^]

    Well.....not to flog a dead horse, but I've been a 1911Nut for about 40 years, and own a bunch of 'em.

    First off, to answer your question "Does Colt still make a decent .45?" The answer is yes they do....but....there are many who feel that the current Colts are overpriced for what they are, and that there better bargains out there of equal quality like Kimber and Springfield Armory.

    The SA Mil. Spec. should make a good "hunting companion"....reliable, and accurate enough for defensive purposes or dispatching a wounded deer, etc. However, I sure wouldn't recommend shooting at DG's large Kodiak Bear...you might annoy him! [:D]
