AMT Automag II
Hey guys,
I puchased an amt automag II from my father and the gun jams up like there is no tommorow usually every other round. I have been told to try different ammo, I have tried every 22 mag shell I can find in it it seems to run best off of cci maxi mag v. I was also told there is a feed ramp problem but the person who told me this has never looked at the pistol. I was wondering if this is a common proble with AMT's or if the problem is just not hot enough ammunition. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just purchase one. New in the box - original model before Hi Standard. Can you give me any information on keeping it running smoothly? Is there a secret to keeping the gas ports clean? Any special lubricants or tricks? 0 -
As per factory -only Winchester ammo is be used. That will clear up most of the jamming problem. I put a heavier firing pin spring in mine to eliminater the rest of the feeding problems. I have used if flawlessly ever since. Al 0 -

Which Winchester ammo works best for you, I've tried some Winchester and haven't had any luck in clearing up the jamming.

Yep, thats what they do. They're finicky little guns but when tuned as mentioned above they work alright. I had a 6" and a 4" and the shorter barrel didn't seem to jam as often. I think the lighter slide had something to do with it. Hope you get it shooting!!! 0 -
I bought an Automag II, long barrel, a few years ago used at a gun show, and it never jams. I shoot all ammo. I have heard often about this problem. It is a mystery to me.

Hey BigBang, did you ever disassemble the gun?
If so, did you put the ejector back in its' slot on top of the frame, pointing the right way?
Let someone with a strong grip shoot your gun; you may be "limp-wristing" it and causing your own problem.
I've had my brace of AMTs since the early 80's without so much as a hiccup.

I can't find my owner's manual, but a note in the box says that they may not function with CCI ammo loaded with flake-type powder.
Their Auto Mag II pistols have been tested with .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire cartridges, as you've already heard.
I use only the Winchester Full Metal Case X22MR1 and still get a jam once in a while. Haven't shot it enough to smooth it out, hard to fill the mags without a tool,-

I just read in a Gun Industry Magazine that their back in business after being bought out and are or will be producing the Auto Mag 11 again.? [:)]

I had the same problem right out of the Box I took it to a Smith he did something to the Recoil Spring If I remember correctly he said it was too tight! Never had a FTF after the work. 0 -
thanks for the info everyone,
from shooting it i was thinking there was a problem with the recoil spring or something in the ejector clip. Now i've just got to find someone locally to work on it.
