How to dismantle a 1911????
Perhaps in the past this has been asked but I'll ask anyway. Even though I own several 1911's, I have never torn one apart. I can dissemble a Sig do to being a Sig armorer but the 1911 is something I have stayed away from. Where can I get a reliable source to tackle this job. I would like to beef up my Norinco. The rest I will leave alone until my skills with this piece of iron are wrinkle free. Thanks

The National Rifle Association (& several gun book dealers) sell a reprint of M1911 articles from the American Rifleman that includes complete disassembly/assembly instructions, with photos.

Here you go:
http://www.sightm1911.com/
In the left hand column, click on "Care and Use".....when the picture of the 1911 comes up, click on "Maintenance".
Under Assembly/Disassembly, there four different tutorials on how to disassemble and assemble your pistol....pick the one you like the best.0 -
There are always auction offerings of the Rifleman books on firearms Assy/Disassy. 0 -
Many thanks. I really appreciate the information. I has helped more than you know. Dennis

The Sight doesn't tell you how to remove the trigger and magazine catch. It is done after the sear and disconnector are removed.
Press in the magazine catch and using a small screwdriver rotate the screw until it stops. The catch will then fall out along with the trigger. The springs in the magazine catch and hammer spring housing are both under tension and not normally taken apart.0
