Greener Shotgun Date of Manufacture,Choke Question

I have a WW Greener model GP 12ga shotgun based upon the Martini Action. I read in a collecters book that these were made from 1910 to the late 60's. can anyone tell me the date mine was made? The serial # is H45315. This is the civilian model and not the militray gun. There is no coding for the choke but it says it has a.729 bore. I shot it and the pattern seems tight possibly a full or tighter.
Thanks for any help as I dont know much about brit guns

    Wehrmacht, .729 is Cyl. bore, have you measured the muzzle?

    No I havent measured the muzzle. The .729 was the only other marking on the barrel besides the proof marks and the 12ga 2 3/4 markings. Can you give me the bore sizes fo rthe various chokes so I can get an idea when I measure with my digital calipers at work?

    I can find nothing on a GP model. Very likely this was one of a bewildering variety of export shotguns, rather than a gun made for "the London trade." Quality of export guns ranged from best quality to cheap, one supposedly said to be guaranteed for only one shot.

    Well these are not the fanciest guns but what I could find about them said they are unusually rugged since they are equipped with the Martini Action. I read that they have fired a double loaded magnum shell or something of that nature with little effects. The gun is equipped with nice figured walnut and well finished with an old salt blue finish. I like it very much and I just wanted to know when it was made. A value book said they were made from 1910-1967 before being bought out by Webley and Scott but I have no info on the serial number. Plese keep looking for me. Maybe it is under Webley and Scott. I heard that they continued to make small batches of GPs up till the early 90's

    I find no GP model under Webley & Scott either, BUT this reference indicates that WW Greener was sold to the owner of Navy arms in 1965, who sold it to Webley & Scott who sold it to Holland and Holland. It was then reaquired by the Gransson of WW Green in 1996 and briefly made some nice guns before closing. Under Webley and Scott it says that Webley and Scott was absorbed by WW Greener around WWII.

    Other references are equally unhelpful in showing a GP model by WW Greener. None of my references show serialization of British guns, nor have I seen such. It may well be that you will need to look to England to locate such. I might start by contacting some of the US dealers that import British shotguns to try to track down a historian. You might equally contact Holland and Holland or Purdy about a historian. Since Boothroyd died, I don't know who that would be.

    Well thanks for the help you guys. I guess I gave you a real doosey. I will just let it be. I got the thing in 98% condition for around the blyue book price so I am happy. I just like to know the history of my guns I have collected. Most likely it is a later made one due to the shape, but who knows.

    I love those Martini Actions, and Greener is the best. I can't help with the date...I've never been able to find any reliable source. I have a couple Martini Cadets in .310, and always wanted a shotgun...enjoy!!!
