Broken Desert Eagle?
Got a 44mag that won't unlock when put together. I checked with the book to make sure I put it together correctly and I had. If I turned the takedown lever and removed the barrel I can operate the slide rearward and not see anything that would impeded it. If I remove the guide rods and springs I can operate it fine. When all the parts are where they belong you can not move the slide rearward as if to shuck a round into the chamber though the mag is empty. One thing I did notice is that the nub on the bar that connects the guide rods that fits into the piston groove is rubbed down to not much left. The piston still has a hold on the bar to keep it in place. It feels almost like the bolt won't start it's turn to unlock from the barrel. Any suggestions?

Big Daddy, It sounds like the same problem I had awhile ago. I put that spring carrier together wrong and the "nub" you are talking about was mashed over. I replaced that spring carrier and put it together correctly and works fine.
It has been awhile since I have done this but it sounds like the same problem.
