1911 question
If you wanted a good 1911 would it be better to buy the Springfield and add the options you wanted yourself, or buy a Kimber that is already tricked out, or something else that I have not mentioned? You guys generally give good advice so that is what I am trying to get again. Thanks guys!

for a highcap 1911 you need to look at Para Ordnance p-14, a springfield wide body, STI, SV, Kimber... maybe 15% of current 1911 type guns are double stack guns capable of holding more than 8 rounds without sticking out a mile.

Hello IMHO if you need more than 7 rounds to hit something you need marksmanship schooling what you give up in fire power in a single stack is more then offset by the number of aftermarket parts available to single stack if you want to customize the pistol later.If you have anything but very large hands a single stack grip feels better. easier to carry. 0 -

Traditional 1911s and similar single action 1911 clones will accept up to an 8-round magazine that will fit flush with bottom of the grip. Extended round magazines (greater than 8 rounds) for conventional 1911s are available, and will extend several inches below the bottom of the grip.
Non-conventional 1911s (those with double actions and/or double stack magazines) can accept more than 8 rounds (for example, 12, 14, 16 rounds)like the Para's and other "wide-body" pistols.
Determining the difference between the "normal" and "high" capacity 1911 pistols is the body (the grip frame) of the high caps are generally wider to accept the double stack magazine. Also if the pistol has a double stack magazine is dead giveaway.
Beyond that knowledge of the manufacturers and the literature they offer (reading the advertisements) is a good way to learn. In other words, study what is available.
