shooting corosive ammo

What is the best way to clean a gun after shooting corosive ammo?

(just got my first 8mm, these thing have wonderfully smooth actions for only $100 dollers!) I couldn't find any marking to idicate what country this mauser was made in.

    Warm soap and water down the bore, wipe the bolt face, dry, then clean as normal. The corrosiveness is caused by salt which is a byproduct of the primer burning, water washes it away. Some will tell you ammonia or windex; these work because they have water in them and help to start on the copper fouling. I shoot thousands of rounds of this a year, no troubles. Good luck, if you can tell us what markings ARE on the gun we may be able to help id it.

    The reason I use Windex is to clean the rifle before I leave the range. If you take it home and forget it will not be good for it. Windex is in a bottle, and keep it in the shooting bag with a cleaning kit.

    I got some old .45ACP with steel case 1943 which will be used to break in my barrel. Now will this cleaning be sufficient or will I have to "hose it" frame and all? Good thing my .45's Stainless if I have to.

    Hello shooting the Steel case 45 might not be the way to go for a number of reasons first There is a tendency for the bullet because of galvanic action during 50 + years of storage to weld itself to the steel case this can cause higher then normal presures second the steel case can hang/stick to chamber upon firing and break the extractor and third this ammo is collectable and you can trade for new ammo of maybe come out $ ahead. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

    If you can find GI bore cleaner in the little green cans, that is the best for corrosive ammo. Anybodies corrosive ammo.

    yoshmyster, with no disrespect to perry shooter, his third point - that the steel cased .45 ACP has collector value - is incorrect. While *some* of the steel cased rounds will bring a premium to new ammo, the EC 43 and ECS 43 ammo is absolutely not in this category (although if someone wants to give you a premium for it, be very polite in taking their money!).

    there are no marking on top of the reciever. and are only serial numbers on the rifle.
