Hi Standard HD Mainspring
I need a new mainspring in my HD Military as I'm getting lots of misfires which require double strikes to fire. Now I can get the spring from Brownells, but don't know how to install it. Is this something that requires chanting and invocation of the sprits to perform or can I do it myself ? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

its the hardest and most difficult model to change a spring on. start chanting. if you want to send the slide to me, i will do it faster than i can type it!

Thanks bobski, guess I was using the wrong termnology. The spring I need to replace is the one that drives the hammer which is in the frame. 0 -
even more chanting involved! requires almost 100% disassembly. i can do it. it just takes time. are you sure its the hammer spring? your firing pin could be broken. ive never known a hammer spring to fail. it always seemed to be the transfer of energy in the slide that was the culprit.

Well, I'm not sure its the hammer spring. I looked at the firing pin with a magnifying glass and it looked to be the proper shape with no indication of breakage. I'm beginning to think I should just keep trying ammo until I find one that works reliably. It did pretty well with Federal match, only three double strikes for 15 rounds. Maybe I should replace the firing pin first before I invoke the nuclear option. 0 -
the firing pin point may be fine but it can be broke in half inside. the pin spring inside may be weak. that may be the problem. its 'inside' the slide. its out of sight and inside the firing pin cavity hole. 0 -
Took the firing pin out and its not broken. I'm ordering a new one with a spring anyway to try that before going any further. Thanks for the help. 0 -
