Legality question
what is the legality surrounding threading the end of a barrel on a pistol and a rifle? i was under the impression that simply threading the end was legal and required no special licensing(so long as it doesn't violate the magic number 2 on postban semiauto rifles).

Hi,
I'm new to the world of handguns. I'm currently only 19 years old and live in West Virginia. I have heard that there is a loop-hole in our laws that will allow me to legally own a handgun. It had something to do with parents handing the gun down or something along those lines. I have no idea if it was a bogus claim or not. Could someone please let me know if there is any truth to that, or if not, are there any loop-holes? Or, where do I need to go to find the answer to these sort of questions.
Thanks in advance,

Check with Your Local Police Department or Sheriff Office or State Police or Attorney Generals Office...$5.00's worth of phone calls now is cheaper than all the Money it would cost to get out of the POKEY.....!

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, and if you believe anything I say on this subject you may wind up in jail and it ain't my fault.
Federal law prohibits a FFL dealer from selling a handgun to anyone under age 21. Federal law prohibits anyone not a FFL dealer from selling a handgun to anyone he has reason to believe is under age 18. West Virginia law prohibits anyone under 18 from having any firearm unless with permission and supervision of parent or guardian, or required by employer.
West Virginia has stopped issuing concealed carry permits to anyone under 21. Permits already issued to anyone under 21 are still valid, but no new ones will be issued.
Since you ask the question, I assume you do not already have a concealed carry permit, so I would say you can not buy from a FFL dealer or carry concealed. Otherwise you are good to go.0 -

I have no intent to carry the gun concealed. I just was wondering if I could legally own one for target shooting and just to work on marksmanship.

I don't see why not. The way I read it you can do anything except buy from a FFL dealer.0 -
Maybe this is part of what you heard. But like the cap'n said, check with your LOCAL PD.
From the BATF site,
(B15) May a parent or guardian purchase firearms or ammunition as a gift for a juvenile (less than 18 years of age)?
Yes. However, possession of handguns by juveniles (less than 18 years of age) is generally unlawful. Juveniles may only receive and possess handguns with the written permission of a parent or guardian for limited purposes, e. g., employment, ranching, farming, target practice or hunting. [18 U. S. C. 922( x)]0 -

This thread has got me wondering. I finally talked my dad into buying another handgun for me to use during hunting. Leaglly its his gun but I carry it, with a permit, for hunting. Whats the take on that? How does he transfer it to me when I hit 21? 0 -
James,
I know he said he is 19.
The post is in reference to parents buying guns for kids.
Do ya think it MIGHT have been what he has heard about???
Bill,
If you live in a free state, he just hands it to ya.
If you live in a NOT so free state, you have to do the paperwork.
