m1 Garand

I just got a correct grade M1 from CMP. I don't know a whole lot about them, I field stripped it and cleaned it by using the instructions included. Everything looks great. I was wondering though, the instruction say I should have it looked over by an experienced gunsmith before firing. Is this just a c.y.a. statement, aren't these rifles headspaced and test fired? Thanks, John

    Just bought one and now have the question - aside from one at a time is there any way to easily load the clips?

    Hello this M1 is a rifle that was on loan to another country when the price of used M1 began to rise they were imported back into the U S but BATF made the importer stamp there name on them.

    As PS said, Blue Sky was the company that imported the gun. Look on the side of the chamber area of the barrel, under the op rod. There you will find the barrel maker and date of barrel manfacture.

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    Blue Sky imported their rifles (& M1 carbines) from Korea. The Korean army heavily used & abused most of their rifles. Many have bad barrels, & other bad parts are common. Many rifles were reparked so poorly that the surface looks like chalk, & will abrade with your fingernail.

    I recommend that you have it inspected by a gunsmith familiar with the M1 rifle before firing it.

    It would probably sell in the $300-500 range, depending upon condition.

    I will look for some more ID marks. I haven't ever taken it apart. The park and everything is pretty clean on it. Just one of those look at toys but hate to not shoot it also. Thanks for everyones help it is really appreciated. Keep them in the 10 ring

    I was at Camp Perry in August and while there I stopped by the CMP North Store and checked out a couple of the M1 Garand "collector" grade M1's. I was less than impressed. The ones I saw were not any better than the regular rack grades present--they just had "most" of their parts matching instead of the usually mixed parts of the rack grades.

    I have a skyblue from arlington... decent rifle... not sure on the actual numbers for TE or the crown(when i bought it the ffl checked it out and said it would be "fine"). All i know is that the bullet inserted into the muzzle falls completely to the neck of the brass(good muzzle is supposed to grip around the 2/3 mark). The lower stock has been replaced. Other than that the rifle is great. All SA the numbers on the reciever, trigger housing and bolt 282xx are consecutive(actually i think the bolt skips 1) the finish on the barrel is worn on the underside where the oprod touches. And the finish the gas tube indicates the age of the rifle. Other than that, 75% or better finish, spotless reciever, trigger house, op rod, gas piston, gas port(chromed). No rust no pitting. Despite the fact that the TE and ME are both probably horrible and would make a "real" garand owner shudder, it still shoots out to 100yds accurate enough not to irritate me!

    The muzzel of this one is "counter bored" about 1/2" the whole case projectile end will go in before you can see the rifeling.
