Need some help identifying this shotgun.

I have a .410 single shot, bolt action shotgun. On the gun is: Revelation Model 335 -.410 Gauge
Western Auto Supply Co.

I know this isnt exactly a top dollar gun but I really want to get one exactly like it for my grandfather. He always talks about how much he likes shooting it. I would give him this one but it was bought for my father by his dad, then passed down to me when I was a kid.
Any one know what the equivalent is? I've done some research and found that it may be a Stevens, or Mossberg but most all of the Mossbergs I've seen are 2 or 3 shots.

    It's neither Stevens, or Mossberg.

    It's a Marlin Model 55

    If I can remember the Revelation was branded by Western Auto and is simply a copy of the Marlin 59 bolt action single shot .410. An excellent condition Revelation might bring $70 on a good day so I'd suggest you get grandpa a nice Marlin 59 for around $100 (he deserves it).

    Hmm, I looked in the gun book and dont see a Marlin 59 at all...the Model 55 doesnt come in .410ga. Could it be something else?

    I hope you can find one like it, but if you don't have any luck with that, couldn't you let him borrow it? Ask him to specify in his will that it is a borrowed item to be returned to you when he passes on. [?]

    It's really become somewhat of a holy grail type thing. I've gone to every local gun show for 3 years and havent seen one that looked even close. All the pawn shops here in town have my home phone number, should one come in. The guys at the gun shows always say that anyone that has one keeps it. I really would have thought that they would be very common, but noooooo. Cheap yet unavailable I guess.

    Sure I could let him borrow mine but it would be more fun to find one for him...the condition isnt that important...he would like it more if he had to restore it.

    If the gun book you own does not even list the Marlin 59 (Marlin made about 50,000 of them starting in the mid fifties and ending in around 1965), I suggest that you expand your library! The Model 55, although bolt action, has a two shot magazine while the shotgun in question here is a single shot (hence the Model 59).

    You better listen to Mark....I looked into My database and here's what I Find........
    MARLIN Model 59 Auto-Safe Bolt Action Single.....Takedown. Auto Thumb Safety. 410 gauge. 24" barrel. Full Choke. Weighs 5 lbs. Plain pistol-grip stock..Made from 1959 to 1961...In Excellent Condition is worth maybe $75.00....Have You placed a Wanted Ad in the Wanted Sections of the Forums....?.....

    I did a search at GB and found a model 59 that didn't sell. I then found a current auction by that seller and emailed him the URL to this thread. If he didn't sell it already, you might be in luck.

    The book that I have is the Twenty-First Edition Blue Book of Gun Values by S.P. Fjestad. I looked again, still didnt see the 59 in there. Either they left it out or I'm crazy...probably the latter. [:D] Thanks for emailing that Henry.


    Also, can you give that link? I couldnt find the auction you were talking about.

    I give the older BB editions away but I looked in the 25th edition of the Blue Book and the Model 59 is listed on page 1016. It also says that 48,447 Model 59s were produced so it seems that I was 1553 units in error (oh well). The Model 59 shotgun also appears in the Gun Traders Guide, Balderson's Modern Firearms, as well as Modern Gun Values. It is probably listed in lots of other books as well, but I lack the inclination to look any further for a $70 shotgun. Buy one for gramps, I'm sure he'll love it!
