    I highly recommend getting a factory letter for your Model 1873 - http://www.bbhc.org/firearms/records.cfm

    The factory letter will confirm the special order 28-inch barrel length (24-inches was standard), and will tell you exactly when the Rifle was made & shipped.

    The trapdoor in the buttplate is for a 4-piece cleaning rod (not cartridges).

    I will have to see pictures of it before attempting a value estimate on it. Either post them here, or send to Win1885@msn.com
