Nikon Scopes
Wondering just what the difference is between the Nikon prostaff scopes and the Nikon Monarch. Is there enough difference to warrant the cost?

What do you guys think of the Nikon Monarch? Nikon Monarch Gold? Nikon Buckmaster? How do they compare to Leupold's VXII or VXIII? Thanks in advance for any help. 0 -
Don't know what the difference is, but just sent a Nikon 3x9x40 Monarch UCC back to their repair center. Bought the scope in 1998 and has been mounted on a 6.5mm-.257 Robt's AI. Won't hold zero anymore and the adjustments have become extremely erratic.
These scopes are warranted only to the original buyer. Best keep the warranty card and original bill of sale handy - you'll need them to receive any warranty work. Luckily, I did.

I aquired a second hand Leupold Vari II 3x9x40 which had been mangled to the point where the tube was slightly bent. I sent it back to them and they repaired it, replaceing the tube and all for nother more then the cost to ship it to them. They even paid the return shipping cost. On this sight there is often a big debate between Nikon, Burris, Leupold, et al but still Leupold did right by me. 0 -
I don't no much about the prostaff line but I thought the Nikon Monarch line was well worth the money. I have had 3 and all worked fine. In optics, like most things, you get what you pay for.

I rank the Monarch third to Burris Signature and Leupold Vari-X III. the optics are quite good, clear to the edges, good light transmission and color rendition. They seem to hold up well, but I have not had mine on rifles larger than .270. If durability is a major concern for you look to high end scopes and consider Burris's Warrenty: Forever. 0 -

In defense of Nikon. They use to have bad service but things have improved. I sold my Monarch and Ruger .338 win mag to my cousin. It went bad after the third season (hot load) and he sent it back with nothing (no box/no slip). They gave him a brand new one. I had heard things are better and that convinced me.

Just wondering if a Prostaff Nikon will take the abuse of a .308? 0 -
I would tend to think it would hold up to recoil as well as the Monarch. If you are not shooting really hot loads I don't think it should be a problem. The big difference between the scopes should be the quality of the materials (lens, ect.) and the clarity.
