Is it legal for a dealer to sell...

a pistol barrel to someone in another country? I have some Desert Eagle barrels up for sale on GB and I received an email from someone in Venezuela asking how he could purchase my barrel. He wanted to know if I could ship it to his courier in Miami FL.?.?. This is not a complete firearm...just a barrel. So would that be legal? Thanks in advance for the feedback!

    An Export Permit is needed to export any gun part. They are issued by the US Dept of State. I have no idea what parts are on that list.

    Sending it through a middle man like a courier in Florida might be a legal way around this requirement......or it might be bait that could lead to arrest & federal indictment for conspiracy against you.

    What's the worse that could happen to you? $20,000 in legal fees & 5 years in the Allenwood Correctional Facility? I'd think twice about it.

    nmyers is correct... firearms barrels are prohibited from export without proper US Federal paperwork

    To be fair, most dealers rarely get involved in any transaction other than buying & selling to state residents. When you get into the more unusual stuff, things get sticky. The standard reference resource is Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide (ATF P5300.4), which is not very clear & often has contradictory information. Even ATF agents will often give incorrect interpretations. It's no wonder that the most asked questions on this forum involve the explanation of federal, state, & local firearms laws.

    I don't think ANY gun part requires special permit, barrels definately do, receivers, and I think bolts is on the list or those requiring export/import permit. Maybe hammers. Things like springs, grips, smaller parts are okay....
