Long story short, I plan on buying a 1911 but dont have the cash for something decent right now. I want to get something before my permit runs out. Ive seen some used but in rough shape. Do frames wear to the point that they are not worth putting money into. Im wondering if I should buy or brand new frame or used complete gun for the same price that needs a rebuild. As long as I have the frame, I can buy parts over time to send to a smith.

Hello Caspian would be my first choice or a 1927 model Argentine or Springfield some essex's are fine and others have misplaced hammer pin holds and Magazine wells and near impossible to get to work with aftermarket parts. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

Just built up one on a SAM frame (Philippines). Two minor problems using original 19ll, mfg 1918, parts. Had to open the keyhole a few thou on the left side where the mag latch goes. Had contact where the sear straddles the disconnector, which I cleaned up about .010" or so. A good frame for the money, less than $100.

I like Essex. Mine is built on an Essex so I guess Im a tad biased. Ive had no problems with mine. It shoots great and is extremely accurate. I have the frosted stainless frame.

Mine is the one on top.
