Styer S40, HK USP compact, or ?

Greetings! I've been contemplating a compact firearm to replace the Beretta 96 Centurion I carry now which, needless to say, isn't the easiest or most comfortable weapon to carry concealed.

I'd appreciate any experience you all may have with carrying and using the Styer S40, USP Compact (.40) or other compact pistols that you carry that are a good mix of accuracy and concealablity.

    Between those two. I'd go with the USP. I have more than 10000 rounds through mine and it has not yet to give me a hassle yet and is still accurate. Called HK up and asked if I should send her in for a overhaul and they said call them back after another 10,000 rounds.

    Do you regularly maintain your USP? I ask because a friend of mine who carries a USP as a primary has said the same thing and he has never once cleaned his and it has worked flawlessly between qualifications.

    I've heard nothing but good about the USP.

    your friend is a lot braver than i am, to carry a weapon he has never cleaned. You might make sure he knows how to disassemble it.[:D]

    I maintain all my weapons. Most I ever put through it without cleaning is 2500 rounds. No malfunctions noted. It eats up the +P stuff great and also my light target loads function in it.

    You will find that maintnance of the USPs is very simple. Its a pure fighting weapon designed to function in harsh enviroments. Pricey but well worth it in my opinion.

    You can carry cocked and locked or in double action.

    The only CON i see with the USP is HK has slow customer service.

    If you send a pistol in, expect her to be gone for 6 weeks. Replacement parts are hard to come by if you break something. Which is pretty hard to do.

    Thanks for the quick and informative reponses. I'm going to give the USP a try for a spell and see how I like it.

    I have the Steyr S40, the SW99 Compact in 40 and the Sig Sauer 239 in 40. I like the grip, sights and all the safety features of the Steyr, but for conceal carry it is a bit bulkier and therefore heavier than all the others I have. If I wanted something to slip under a shirt or carry on a waist band I would consider using my Sig, but otherwise I really like my Steyr. It's a great little gun.

    Well, there has to be one in every crowd, so here it goes! I do not personally own a USP, but have a ton of friends who do. Several of them are upset with the performance of their USP's and have switched over to other brands. The list of complaints is fairly small, but they all seem to have to do with the bang for the buck theory. Nothing seriously wrong with the pistol or design, but the new Springfield compact will do alot the same thingsfor alot less. The Steyr is an excellent pistol, and if it were not for the large size, I would give it some thought.

    The Styer is large? I was under the impression it was a compact.

    I too can sing praises about HK. I have carried the USP Compact 45 for about five years now. I couldn't begin to count the number of rounds that have passed through that gun and it has never had a single problem. The gun has been used for everything from simple target shooting to combat style competitions.

    The only complaints I have had is that the rail is not universal and will only accept the HK weapon light. I have also had a rare problem with the extended floor plates on the mags. If they hit the ground (hard surface) the floor plate will sometimes unseat and shift forward.
