Iver Johnson 100 year commemorative set
I've got an Iver Johnson 100 year commemorative set of 22cal pistols. There were only 450 of these issued so it's been hard to find any info on the value. The set comes in a wood presentation case and includes a model 55-a, 57-a, 50-a and 67. All are mint and never fired and it includes the commemorative issue certificate. These were put out back in 1971 or '73. Does anybody have any ideas on this?
p.s. The foam they used in the cases deteriorated and had to be removed and the guns stored seperately.

the year was 1971. the person who signed the certificate luther m. otto III was iver johnson grandson who was in charge of the company until 1973. there were also single gun sets offered of the four in the larger set. the single gun set were not limited to a set number. they serial numbers started where the four gun set ended. each gun in the set had the same serial number except for the letter code that identified the model. the letter codes are model 55A H, model 57A J, model 50A E and model 67 A. serial number started at 1 for the four gun set and at 451 for the single gun sets. the single gun set came in a metal box marked simular the the four gun wooden box. i now own set number 310 but have owned 283 and 345 which only had three of the original four in it. as nice as the four gun set is i have never seen one sell for more that $800 and the single gun for more than $200. i have never seen one with the original green foam intact.

That's the set! I've watched the auction for quite awhile but have never seen one listed. I have set #95 here and was going to put up for auction soon. I wasn't sure if I should try to find a replacement foam for the box or leave it alone. I'm leaning toward the leave-it-alone idea. Thanks for the info.

Thanks again for the info. I put it up on the auction with a $500 start and no reserve. Now I'll find out what the buyers think it's worth. 0 -
I see these puppies sold. I would've thought this set would have done a little better than that. I have a single 100 anny. m 55. Like most the liner in the case is gone. It has two cyls. 22 and 22 mag. I never really cared for I.J handguns But I grew up with a I.J. 16 Ga. SS shotgun. Still have it and added her sisters 12 & 20 the old rack of wall hangers. Iver Johnson may have been better off to drop the handguns completely and stick with the shotguns.

unfortunely by the time iver johnson hit their 100th year they were almost at the end of a downhill slide that seems to have started after world war II and ended when the family sold the company in 1973. all shotgun and revolver production had ended by 1978 and the new owners started manufacturing M-1 carbine clones and semi-automatic pistols only and by 1992 all production ended and in spring of 1993 every thing was sold at auction. a sad ending for a company that was the largest revolver manufacturer in the world during the early 1900's (1900-1908).
