WHAT'S IT WORTH?
My good friend has a S&W model 586 that he wants to sell and asked me what it is worth. It is blued, has adjustable rear sights, and a 4" barrel. I have not seen the pistol but he said it is in excellent shape and he will throw in a few speedloaders with it. He is the kind of man that takes good care of everything he owns and I figure the pistol is in excellent shape as he has fired only a few rounds through it. Anybody give me some ballpark numbers for it's worth. I would like to buy it but with deer hunting, taxes and Christmas, I just can't do it. Thanks, Dandy

I did a quick search of closed auction for the last 30 days , it looks like about $275 to just over 300 is what they are selling for unless they have the 8-3/8" barrel then they bring more ,,, book put them at 300 for exc. condition 0 -
Blue Book value:
98% - $300
95% - $250
90% - $230
The speedloaders would add to the package value, but I don't know how much.0 -
Thanks for the response guys, I really appreciate it. Well today he told me he would take $250 for the pistol and the speedloaders and some ammo. Told me he would hold it for me for a couple of months so I guess I'll end up with it after all. One more question, is this a good pistol, with a proven track record? I really don't keep up with revolvers and know little about when this model first came out. Any info about the model 586 would sure be appreciated. Again thanks, Dandy 0 -
yes the 586 is a fine revolver , usually very accurate, good trigger , easy on the hand , I've had my 686 which is the same gun just make out of stainless steel instead of blue for over 20 years now , its been a great all around gun , wouldn't sell it for anything [:D]
at $250 i would be racing to buy it [:D]0 -
The Model 586 is also known as the Distinguished Combat Magnum and is an excellent revolver in all respects.
You're getting a good deal here.0 -
go get it.
I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.0
