got this BAR in the shop. here is my problem....
the gas piston is STUCK in the cylinder. i have soaked it in kroil for a week,applied heat,tried two bolts with coupling nut to force it out, cussed, prayed and it is still STUCK. [:0]

I don't pretend to be a BAR expert but I feel that I have some information that may be useful to you. I purchased a similar BAR last year. Grade II with the same scroll work chambered in 30:06. The hood over the front site had been removed at some point but other than that, it was 90-95%. It has beatiful wood with the original finish in great condition. I tried to buy the rifle a year earlier but the seller would not budge off of $500.00. I finally bought it for his price. It goes to the woods with me next weekend. I thought $500.00 was a fair deal for all concerned. BTW, I splurged and put a Leupold LPS on it just for good measure. The set up shoots great.

Thanks Robin, It helps to have some imperical info. I would imagine this rifle is a real sweetheart on a hunt. Nice size, light weight, very handy. Good luck in the woods, Out here in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia the hunting ain't really worth it. I do get out to Wyoming and Michigan on occasion where hunting is still worthwhile and rewarding. 0 -
$500 would be a fair price, i just (did't hit the bid button) passed on a very similar rifle on another auction site for $595 with a much better scope (the rifle didn't sell). the scope isn't a very good one, heter's bought these and had thier name put on them. herters went out of business in the early 1970's. 0
