Rem. 22 pump aluminum barrel/reciever
I recently acquired a reminginton 597 that has an aluminum barrel and reciever. This strange looking little pump 22 has a odd light brown finish to it. Have have never seen a rifle that has looked like this before. If the rifle hadn't been aluminum i think that the whole gun would be one solid peice of rusted steel. A few parts such as the sights and the pump guide rode are crome plated steel, and their all rusted. I was wondering the value of this rifle. i looked in my old blue book and they didn't list an aluminum model. i was also wondering what i should do about the rusty sights, triggar, and few other parts that i want to restore.
This is the funnest gun i have ever shot. when i got to my back yard with it i hit every steel swinger i aimed at, at 40 yards. That little thing is a blast!

The 597 is an autoloader. Perhaps one of the 572 series?
These were pump actions that had anodized alloy receivers (available
in differnt colors-I believe) and a steel sleeved barrel.0 -
I don't know how many colors, but back in the 60's I had a mod 121 Fieldmaster that looked like it was made from copper, both barrel and receiver. I'm sure it wasn't, just some kind of plating, but I haven't seen one since. It's interesting to hear of yours.

Item # 26775799 On Gunbroker is one of the 572 mentioned earlier. the 572 is a very light rifle and a nail driver. I too think this is the gun mentioned in this post. This particular version is rather expensive saw another at a gunshow in Lima Oh a couple of weeks ago with a $600 price tag on it, I have a super nice blued model that I paid $125 about 10 years back.

What is being described is a Remington Model 572 Lightweight. With their sleeved aluminum barrels, the Lightweights are very light, hence the name! The Lightweight was made in three colors from 1958 through 1962. The colors, in decreasing production order, were: "Buckskin Tan," "Crow-Wing Black" and "Teal-Wing Blue." The "Teal-Wing Blue" is by far the rarest.
oldgunner could not have had a Model 121 in "copper" since the Model 121 was not made in colors. (The Model 121 has a steel receiver, while the Model 572 has an aluminum receiver. I suppose someone could have copper-plated a Model 121, but I think oldgunner is confusing the Model 121 and the Model 572, since both are called "Fieldmaster.") A "Buckskin Tan" Model 572 looks very much like copper in color.0 -
