Winchester 75

I have a winchester model 75 in .22LR. After a good cleaning (which it has not had for quite some time) the fireing pin releases when the bolt is closed about 50% of the time. Is this a problem with the bolt, trigger mech, safety, or any combo? Are there parts aviable to repair this rifle?

    Is there any way to mount a hunting scope on a Winchester mod 75 target 22 that only has the wide spaced tappings on the barrel? Does anyone make a mount that uses the rear tappings on the barrel and cantilevers back over the receiver like the browning takedown 22, or something that uses the rear barrel tappings and the receiver tappings for the olympic peep sight

    Welcome to the forum dcso: Well I'm no "expert on the Md 75" but if the firing pin releases, I'd say it's in the bolt. could be several thing from a broken firing pin spring to the catch that holds it. You can find parts for this at www.e-gunparts.com Regards Dave

    Hi DC-
    I would look real close at the trigger mechanism as the culprit.Several things come to mind....

    If you didn't disassemble when cleaning, some debris could have lodged in the works-

    If you did disassemble you could have possibly lost one of the small parts such as the really tiny ball detent and spring in the trigger speedlock

    There is also an adjusting screw for trigger spring tension-be sure its not set too light

    One last thought is that someone in the past has attempted to polish or stone the trigger sear engagement...look close for anything that looks overworked. These are really sound 22's and rarely wear out on their own.

    Thank you both for your suggestions. I will be checking on both of them. This rifle is a new one to me. I have had it now for 2 months and have shot it a little. At least once a year (usually about now) I tear down, as far as I dare, and clean all my guns. In this one I found lots of old oil deposits that looked like grease/varnish. Most of the cleaning work I did was on the bolt. That is where I will start. I have been concidering a trigger job on the gun, so that may be the next step.
    This rifle shoots very well and I want to keep it in a working condition. Possibly even shooting a rimfire league with it.

    On a side note do either of you know where I can get a post for the front sight. Right now it has Lyman double peeps and I feel that I could shoot better with a front post.

    If it's a Lyman Model 17-A, Model 93 or Model 20 LJT/MJT, inserts are available as sets with two different posts and 4 or 5 apertures.
