Ported barrels
Is there any problem in shooting a ported barrel in a semiauti w/o a ported slide?

i have a sig 226. does a ported barrel really help with accuracy? my controle is ok at 25 yards, but i would like it to be better.

Hello I hope You are talking about a COMP on the end of the barrel and not a baller that is the same lenght as the slide that has ports in the barrel. If you have a ported barrel you need to have somewhere for the GASSES to go and inside the slide in not the thing to do. Please be more detailed on the barrel and GUN/SLIDE you are thinking about useing. 0 -
If you put a ported barrel into a gun without a ported slide and the ports is covered by the slide - then you WILL encounter a problem.
Unburnt powder residue will escape with the gasses and if the slide can even take the strain of the gas build-up in the slide/frame itself - you will have an excess residue build-up in that area.
This will eventually settle all over the inner parts - very small particles of unburnt powder moves very fast and are very hot, it will settle everywhere and if not cleaned - it will sort of chemically bond with the metal.
That is if the slide can take the pressureburst and the forces that the pressure inside the slide will do to rip it apart.
I suspect it will eventually damage your slide and eventually ruin your gun if you use a ported barrel with the ports covered by an unported slide.
Ported barrels should never be mounted in a non-ported slide, unless the ports are outside the slide (long barrel that sticks out in front of the slide itself with the ports outside the slide at all times.).
Don't do anything that I've allready done - That'd be just plain STOOOOOOPID.

springfleid makes the v models ,they are ported through the slide
if the slide is unported it will just lock up the slide ,it will not function beyond a single shot ,besides it will defeat the entire porpose of porting anyway
i have a ported beretta ,i really don't care for it ,the upward flash will blind you in a low light situation ,and quickly clogs up the night sights with powder residue

I have both the 22 and 22c glock. If I were to put the 22c bbl in the 22 slide and fire it I beleive it COULD blow the slide off or at least cause hot gases to come out of the slide into to your face and on your hand. THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING, DON'T TRY IT!!![V]

Thanks. I have a friend w/ a Sig who got an extended 357 Sig barrel w/ ports and he was going to get a std length 40 cal barrel with ports. I had advised him that he needed to port the slide. Now I have additional supporting opinions. 0
