WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE SHORT MAGS AND THE REGULAR MAGS? 1.KNOCK DOWN POWER? 2.VELOCITY? 3.LONG RANGE SHOTS

Some more, some less. The Remington line has less case capacity then the Winchester short mag line so theirs will have less of all. This is because knock down and long range are both functions of how fast you can get a heavy bullet to go. So for the functions you are asking about the original mags and the ultra-mags will generally do better then any of the short mags. The functions of the short mags that have peoples attention is that they are just about as fast, say within a 150fps, of the regular mags (7mmRem & 300Win)while being able to be loaded in a short action with a 24" barrel rather then a 26". This makes for a much handier package. Still if long range knock down are your major deciding issues then you should be looking at cartridges like the 300Wby, 7mmSTW, 340WWby and 358STA. 0 -
6 of one, 1/2 dozen of another. Similar performance in different packages.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

i have a 7wsm...i like it a lot and i reload for it. i would've also liked a 7mag or 7stw. i think the short mags look cool- at a cost of magazine capacity maybe. it doesn't kill things any deader than the others.

I Think the WSM are more Efficient, Less powder fer Feet per second.[:0] 0 -
Less powder per feet per second, but, much higher pressure. That is why Winchester had to redesign the bolt face of the Model 70 to that of a modified push feed. They were loseing to many actions during testing. That 3/16" of brass that hangs out in the air on any Mauser type actioned rifle just couldn't take the 70,000+ psi produced by these short magnum cartridges. 0
