Hello vroyce: Well I haven't been burned, but since some manufactures "proof stamps, inspector stamps, gov't stamps" are available by some companies, I know there are some items out there that aren't original. I've even seen people list them here on Gunbroker. The best way to avoid those items, is read everything you can about them study originals closely, and you will soon see big differences between originals and copies. Regards Dave

This sort of thing is particularly common with Nazi items. There are probably more fakes out there for sale than authentic items.

Not yet, but I always carry a 10X loupe and read voraciously on what's new.

There was a cowhand once who said that Shakespeare was the only poet who wrote like he'd been raised on red meat.
No man in his right mind will play with a gun. I've seen show-offs doing fancy spins and all that. No real gun-fighter ever did. With a hairtrigger, he'd be likely to blow a hole in his belly. L'Amour

The key is to do lots of research if you plan on buying a rifle (or any item for that matter), that you are not very familar with. I think that most of the cases we hear about, are from people new to a particular make or model that buy the story, not the firearm. And always remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

SOG had NAZI proofed STAR MODEL B pistols for sale a couple years ago that turned out to have been manufactured in 1948. obviously they were fakes, and SOG got burned by the supplier...

ask MARK CHRISTIAN to comment on the current lot of fake / restamped / counterfiet M-1 GARAND BBLS that were altered to decieve potential buyers...

it hapens, and its a case of buyer beware, and doing a ton of research before making a purchase.

    best regards, mike.
