NICKLE PLATED GUN

IS IT POSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE NICKLE FROM A REVOLVER THEN BLUE IT OR IS THERE SOME OTHER WAY TO DO IT..I'M LOOKING AT A NICKLE REVOLVER AND DON'T CARE FOR THE NICKLE AND WANTED A BLUE GUN[?][|)]

    Brownell's offer a nickel plating removing kit for around $40. If that doesn't scare you off, it worked fine for me. Two chemicals you mix with water and put the degreased parts in. In a few hours, maybe overnite the nickel is gone leaving a clean gray iron surface. I polished and did a re-nickel but believe it could just as easily be blued.

    I can't recommend this type of project.

    Removing the old nickel is the easy part. The problem is, whatever is under the nickel is NOT going to be a beautiful polished blue finish. The metal will be UGLY, possibly scratch or buffed. The gun must be stripped down to the last little part, inspected, polished, parts replaced, blued, gauged, assembled, & tested. This is work for an expert, who will charge accordingly.

    Also consider that specifications for plated guns may be different than blued, since copper & nickel adds thickness. So, if the gun was altered for plating, it may now be out of spec.
