  is there any specific type of aftermarket rifle stock that i need to buy if i wanted to put it on my ruger 77/17? would any of the nice benchrest stocks fit, and if not what would i possibly have to do to make it fit?

  There are a number of different aftermarket stocks by Boyd's, McBors etc., and they will have a product list that will show you which stock is designed for what specific actions. Boyd's would likely be your best bet, and their VIP stock line is as close to completely inletted as you can get. To attempt to modify a bench rest stock that was intended for a different action altogether is going to be alot more work than it's worth. If you lok at www.midwayusa.com they will have a large number of stocks available that will fit your specific rifle.
