SKS SIghting zero procedure!?

Does anyone know the proper procedure for bringing the sighting on an SKS to "original zero"??

I have Yugo's and Chinese if they differ!?

    The front sight is mounted on a horizontal cylinder that resembles a small soup can. Shoot your carbine and adjust this left and right until you get the windage right. Oil it first. It still will be hard to move. I use a flat ended punch and a hammer. They make a tool to adjust the front sight windage with, but mine bent before it moved the cylinder. Move the front sight in the opposite direction you want the bullets impact to go. If you are hitting left, move the sight left as well. Next set the rear sight for 100 meters. Sight in the carbine to hit on at this range. Adjust only the front sight height. There is a special tool made to do this too. It usually works great. If you are shooting high, move the sight "up", if hitting low, screw the front sight in, making it shorter. That's it basically. Next try the battle sight setting on the rear sight. On mine it's marked with an upside down U, on others it's a "3". See how your carbine shoots with this setting. That's all I do.

    The sight adjustment tools cost about $10.00. You can probably order them from Cheaper Than Dirt, Center Fire Systems, Federal Arms, Tapco, etc., or pick one up at a gun show. The ones I have work pretty well, and will work on most A.K.'s. You could also use needle nose pliers to screw the front post up or down, but the sight adjustment tool makes the windage adjustments much easier to do.

    The sights on SKS's and A.K.'s are calibrated in meters. The first setting on those sights is called a "battle setting" and is 300 meters (about 330 yards). It's intended to give you a torso hit without any precise sight alignment. I think you'd be better off adjusting the front sight post to give actual 100, 200, 300, etc. meter settings on your rear leaf sight. These rifles can be surprisingly accurate with open sights and the cheap Russian ammo that's available.
