Hardballer

I aquired an AMT Hardballer yesterday for $300.00...S/S with adjustable sites,adjustable trigger... I ran a few mags through it yesterday with no problems and liked it for the most part...Is this a good quality gun??? or is it prone to breakage and or problems???? Do any Colt .45 style parts fit other than Mag's??? I know AMT is no longer, but was curious of this model's "Track-Record"....Any info would be great, Thanks,

    I heard of a gun a Amt hardballer I think. I now they are a 45 acp but waht is so special about them.

    Hello AMT was one of the first CLONE 1911 types IMHO I thought they were CRUDE showed casting seams etc . only thing "SPECIAL" they were some of the first SS clones. I would buy a new KIMBER if you want SS or Springfield ,Colt series 70. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

    Worst piece of crap I ever shot, held, saw. Luckily I wasn't the one that bought it. Recently I did meet someone that had an accurate and fully functioning/reliable one, but I don't think this was the norm.

    While it is not the prize of my collection I have one ,and I have to say it is a fine shooter ,who ever had it before me did a nice trigger job and put a commander hammer on it .amt as well as many other companies had some quality control problems ,mostly depending on which of the two places they had it was made ,Also they made a hardballer with adjustable sights ,and the government with fixed


    You might also recognize it from the first terminator ,of course it was a long slide

    AMT is back in business I read an article in one of the Firearms Industry mags. Says they teamed up with some other companys and will produce the .22Mag Automag again.[:)]

    AMT makes crappy knockoffs of other guns (1911, Ruger MkII, Ruger 10/22, etc.) The fit and finish is typically crude, and their metal seems softer.

    The AMT Hardballer was the first attempt to build a stainless steel 1911 clone. It was not a great success due to quality control problems.....and a propensity for the metal to gall at the slide/frame interface.

    Back when I was shooting pistol competition,every once in a while someone would show up at a match with an AMT Hardballer and try to shoot with it. Usually he would have a lot of jams and other problems. What I saw from my limited experience with them were that by the time you had spent enough money on them to make them reliable, you could have bought a good Colt 70 and still have money left over. Most of the pistol smiths that I knew didn't like to work on them and several just flat wouldn't even take them in to try to clean them up. This was in the days before Kimber, Smith & Wesson, and others started making the 1911 clones.
