cz pistols
i have heard that these pistols are excellent buys, i see them all over for less than $150, what should i look for when shopping for a cz? what are the differences is models/calibers, or is there a good cz website i could research at?

There are MANY models of CZ pistolthat have been made over the years, so you'll have to narrow it down a bit. General concensus of opinions by those in the know that the CZ's are and always have been well made and often ground breaking pistols. The CZ 52's that are around for between $100 and $150 are universally a great buy, as they are all seemingly about unissued! This gun is chambered for the 7.62x25 Soviet pistol round, but is actually capable of handling much more potent loadings of it than any other gun ever chambered for the cartridge. The Czech military loaded a round that was some 30% higher in pressure than the Soviet TT-30's and 33's standard load therefore causing some bad incidents throughout the com bloc over the years no doubt. Good thing the commies didn't really have lawyers, huh?
The CZ 75 is a legend in it's own time and has been one of the most copied pistols of the last 50 years and is still showing signs of further developement to this day. CZ guns in general, in my view, are a great value and the surplus CZ 70's and 52's are a really good deal as well!

theres their official site; personally I think they make great handguns, and their new P-01 is a reliable little gun. the CZ-75 is one of their top models, so if you're looking for a modern CZ I would check that one out first.

The cz 52's are a good deal. Internally they are a very unique gun, much like an MG 42. The nice thing is taht you can buy these cheap adn convert them to a 9mm gun to fire cheaper ammo. They have conversion kits on Makarov.com. The Cz 70 is also a great buy. Personally I like the cz 83. It is a updated PPK design in my opinion, with a double stack magaizine and updated lines. It makes a great carry gun and Czech quality is on par with any other country, just that the labor being cheaper yields a much better deal than other quality European arms. 0 -
CZ52's, nice pistols. The current wholesale price is some $89 to $109, some have been refinished. Those are dark black, original is grey. A couple of years ago, the Makarovs were selling for $99, and the CZ52's for $129 (again, wholesale). That has reversed. Now the Makarovs sell for more than the CZ52's. I don't understand why. When you buy, remember the dealer needs to make something out of the deal. If he paid $100 (or a bit more) it's understandable he may want $140 to $170 for it. Don't listen to anyone saying that the number of punch marks indicates anything about the number of arsenal rebuilds, or the accuracy, that is just a farce. Those punch marks are heat treat test impressions, nothing more.
