1911 bushings
Hi,
Can anyone tell me what is the correct drill and tap size for installing the grip screw bushings on a 1911? Not oversize, but new install?

Not standard sizes as far as I could tell. Some time back I had to make a tap when I got a new frame that had one of the holes without its thread. Went looking for it again and have since lost the tap.
Been there - done that!0 -
Bushing tap is: .236"-60 Screw tap is: .150"-50
Above items available from Brownells as stock numbers 080-598-236, and 080-598-150 respectively.
Use a 7/32" tap drill for bushings, and a #31 tap drill for screws.0 -
Yes, but.......don't you have to stake the bushings after installation?

Hello brownell also has the tool for STAKING page 110 item#080-644-000 0 -
They were originally staked but it is not necessary. I just screwed them in tight and they were OK. Had the grips off and on several times. Being a lot larger diameter than the screw threads they are not likely to loosen. You can also use 'Locktite' when you install them if you want. 0 -
Thanks to all for the information. 0
