where do I find a 1911 "project"? CHEAP
I am looking for a 1911 or clone to tinker with. I am not concerned with the finish condition or brand names. This will be a tinker gun and a constant carry gun on the farm...i.e. abused. I am open to suggestions and I am an FFL holder. Thanks, all.

Might also look at charles daly, auto ordinance, and maybe a norinco or two is still out there. Some say the Rock River are good as well. The quality of the auto ordinance also was iffy (the one I
have works great) but I think Kahr bought them out, so the first order of business was to improve quality, but has only been in the last year. Of course, the next step up is the basic Springfield, which all who have them here say is a great buy for the $.0 -
Go to the next gun show in your area ... there you should find several options for your "project" and be able to examine them firsthand. I'd sugest you stay away from Llama's as the qulaity control was/is inconsistent and I've seen very good gunsmiths give up on trying to make a sick one well[}:)]
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Cheapest are the Argentine Police Ballester's. I got two from Century Arms for $300. Zero bluing but mechanically good. 0 -
