I'm the rookie with both 1903 colt hammer 38 auto and 1903 colt hammerless 32.
What's the difference between 38 short colt and 38 auto?
How about the difference between 32 ACP and 32 short colt?

    which of these ammo companies put out the highest quality product for the money. It is just fer target practice in most cases.

    The 38 short colt and the 32 short colt are fully rimmed cartridges for revolvers only...never chambered in semi-autos.

    The 38 Auto and 32 ACP are semi-auto rounds...never chambered in revolvers.

    The auto rounds are more powerful than the respective revolver rounds.

    I honestly didn't know there was +P 38 Auto Ammo. The 38 auto was improved with the introduction of the 38 Super, but the super should not be fired in a pistol chambered for 38 Auto. Any chance you could take it by a real gunshop and let them see what you really have???

    emmit, welcome to the zoo! Hangfire is entirely correct. I've never heard of a .38 auto +P loading, but the argument can be made that the creation of the .38 Super was in many ways the precursor of the +P concept. If you have a .38 Auto pistol, I would be *MOST* hesitant to try any "+P" .38 Auto ammo in it, limiting use of such loadings to a .38 Super . . . . . . . . . and then *only* after having the pistol carefully examined by a competent gunsmith. If you can post the full headstamp of the +P rounds you have and any packaging data, I can try to develop some information about the load.

    from the picture it is 'h.p.' ammo..hollow point,not +p .Just standard ammo.the price + shipping is [:0] to me as a reloader,but it could very well be the 'going rate for this ammo.
    edited: hmm,took a second look,it just may say +p in tha circle on the end flap.AS others have said have the gun looked at by a 'smith to know what it's limitations might be.

    Interesting picture. I can't make out for sure if thats +P or not from the photo, but after going to Winchesters site it probably is.When I went to the site it did not list 38Auto but it did list 38 Super with the same stock number as on the box in the photo.....this,in my opinion is a dangerous error in labeling on Winchesters part. Since it is new ammo I can only assume it is 38Super, since 38 Auto is long obsolete.I wouldn't shoot it in a 38Auto!!!

    Hello. There is a 38 Auto +P, it carries a W-W SUPER headstamp and is loaded with a 125 grain HP bullet. Nickeled case & primer. I have some in hand.

    In any case, I wouldn't recommend using +P ammo in either of these old Colts. They've earned a gentle retirement. If you want to shoot them, use standard factory ammo, or light to moderate reloads.

    If you want to use "hot stuff", get a more modern firearm.
