I also am interested in the 16b I suspect the 16c is not California legal. Haven't found anyone who has lived one of these yet.

I have a Keltec SU-16 and Iam very satisfied with it. I think the 16b is a shorter barrel version with a few minor modifications.
I have not seen a 16c, did they add a pistol grip or some other evil feature to make it illegal in Calif?

I think it can fire while folded, and thus has a folding stock and is illegal in CA. 0 -
No, it cannot fire when folded. It will not fold with a magazine in place and when folded the hammer is folded down away from the firing pin.
Like I mentioned, I have one and I live in Calif. Unless they add a pistol grip, flash hider or bayonet lug they do not meet the definition of assault weapon here.

That sure looks like it qualifies as a folding stock to me.
I know the original SU-16 they made was CA legal, but I think that C variant isn't legal.0 -
CA..... Your pic of the 16c is the first I have seen of that model. It may very well qualify as a folding stock as it folds in a different location as the 16 that I have.
The 16b, I believe is the same as mine but with a shorter barrel. It looks like the "c" model could shoot while folded as the action is not "broken" open like my model. It also appears one of the 10rd mags could stay in place on the "c" model when folded, and thus fire multiple shots.

Yea, I definetly remember reading it fires while folded, as if it isn't obvious in that picture, here is their press release: http://www.kel-tec.com/su16cpr.htm they speccifically state it has a true folding stock and can fire while folded
From the picture it looks like it could still fold the way the old ones do for extra compactness(and likeise not fire when folded that way), but it didnt mention that as a shared feature with the other versions in the press release, so Id be interested to know if the new folding stock replaces the old folding stock or if it is in addition to the old folding mechanism. Not that it matters because im gonna be in California for at least another 2 years of college.
hmm just realized, that stock is now availible to buy for the other models, so Im pretty sure with that stock it can be folded both ways, one way it can still fire and the other it cant.0 -
When the SU-16 was introduced, I was very disappointed to see that it did not fold like the Kel-Tec Sub-9, which can be folded with the magazine in place. (The Sub-9 "breaks" at the breech face so cannot be fired while folded.) Just snap the Sub-9 into firing position (with a loaded magazine in place), either pull back the charging handle, or release it if locked to the rear, and a round is chambered and the rifle is ready to fire in a couple of seconds. With an after-market 30-round magaine in place, a Sub-9 is a 9x19 "assault weapon in a brief case." (Yes, I know the real definition of an assault rifle, and the Sub-9 is not one, but it could play one on TV.)
Perhaps the locked breech of the SU-16 demanded the design change, but I doubt it. I suspect "Political Correctness" instead. To get the SU-16 operating, the rifle must opened into firing position, a magazine must be inserted and the charging handle must be pulled back, which takes a lot more time than with the Sub-9, and probably eliminates a "concealable" assault rifle label.0 -

Grizz..... The Keltec rifles are not supposed to be match grade rifles, thats why they are around $500.
Mine shoots about 2 MOA or 2" at 100yds. It was designed as a light weight utility rifle. It is a reliable, handy, and reasonably accurate gun. One big selling point for me was the fact that it uses AR mags.
